13-Year-Old In Dodge Challenger Leads Florida Police On 140 MPH Chase At 4 A.M.

  • Police initially pulled over the 13-year-old before the child led officers on a five-mile 140-mph chase.
  • Authorities reported no injuries as a result of the chase and booked the child into jail afterward.
  • The youngster is only the latest to end up facing serious consequences after driving illegally.

A Florida Highway Patrolman’s routine traffic stop around 3:40 am took a sharp turn when a red Dodge Challenger sped off as he approached the vehicle. After a five-mile chase, the driver finally pulled over, revealing a surprising sight to authorities in Collier County: a 13-year-old boy behind the wheel.

The child’s erratic lane movements likely caught the FHP officer’s attention, prompting the initial traffic stop. Reports suggest that when they fled from the traffic stop, they didn’t seem confused. FHP indicates that the boy turned off his lights and reached speeds of 140 mph (225 km/h) during the chase.

Thankfully, he didn’t hurt anyone or get hurt himself as he pulled over five miles after the initial interaction. Police took him into custody at the intersection of Immokalee Road and Quarry Drive. They booked him into jail for fleeing law enforcement and for driving without a license. The car in question is his stepfather’s vehicle. This is far from the only recent case of a teen making bad decisions in a car.

Several similar incidents have already happened this year. Only a few weeks ago, a 17-year-old led police on a chase in his mother’s white Chevrolet Camaro. Just days before the incident with this Dodge Challenger, a 19-year-old attempted to evade Florida police in a Ford Mustang.

Moreover, early this month another 13-year-old in Canada wrecked a Lamborghini Huracan while joyriding at night in the rain. In that case, the boy fled the scene before officers arrived. They too faced a litany of charges associated with the accident.

Updated Audi Q7 And Q8 PHEVs Pack More Power And Range

  • Audi has introduced updated plug-in hybrid powertrains for the Q7 and Q8.
  • The models have larger capacity batteries and updated electric motors.
  • Thanks to the changes, the crossovers have an electric-only range of up to 53 miles.

Audi has introduced the updated Q7 TFSI e quattro and Q8 TFSI e quattro. Both plug-in hybrids have an updated powertrain that promises to make them more eco-friendly.

var adpushup = window.adpushup = window.adpushup || {que:[]};
adpushup.que.push(function() {

}
else{

adpushup.triggerAd(“6a782b01-facb-45f3-a88f-ddf1b1f97657”);
} });

Without further ado, the crossovers have been equipped with a new 25.9 kWh battery pack. Thanks to its increased capacity, the models now have a WLTP combined electric-only range of up to 53 miles (85 km).

The battery is joined by a 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine and a modified electric motor that is integrated into an eight-speed automatic transmission. This setup gives the 55 TFSI e quattro variants a combined output of 389 hp (290 kW / 394 PS) and 442 lb-ft (600 Nm) of torque. Those are respectable numbers and the crossovers can accelerate from 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) in 5.7 seconds.

});

If that’s not fast enough, the 60 TFSI e quattro has a “newly designed electric motor.” This helps to increase the combined output to 483 hp (360 kW / 490 PS) and 516 lb-ft (700 Nm) of torque. Thanks to the extra power, the 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) time falls to five seconds flat.

Regardless of which variant is selected, Audi said all of them have an electronically limited top speed of 149 mph (240 km/h). The crossovers also have a charging capacity of up to 7.4 kW and this enables the battery to be fully replenished in approximately three hours and 45 minutes.

Besides the powertrain updates, Audi said the “EV mode has been fine-tuned so that only battery-powered propulsion is used even when the accelerator pedal is fully depressed.” Audi also tweaked the charge mode to maximize efficiency and minimize engine usage.

The updated Q7 and Q8 plug-in hybrids will be launched late this month. German pricing starts at €85,500 for the Q7 55 TFSI e quattro and €92,900 for the Q8 55 TFSI e quattro. The 60 variant, on the other hand, begins at €96,000 and climbs to €103,200 in Q8 guise.

Tesla Posts Largest Revenue Dip Since 2012, Yet Shares Surge On ‘Affordable Model’ News

  • Tesla’s revenue fell nine percent year over year during the first quarter which is the worst drop since 2012.
  • The stock price is down over 40 percent since the start of the year, but surged 14 percent after today’s earnings call.
  • Investors appear to be excited about new announcements about Tesla speeding up its goals surrounding future “affordable models.”

In the wake of an earlier April announcement revealing an 8.5% sales drop in Q1 2024, Tesla brought more bad news during its investor earnings call today. Profits plummeted 55% to $1.1 billion, marking the company’s largest percentage decline since 2012. Furthermore, revenue also dipped by 9% compared to the same quarter in 2023, reaching $21.3 billion.

var adpushup = window.adpushup = window.adpushup || {que:[]};

This downturn surpasses even the setbacks Tesla faced during the 2020 pandemic.

The decrease is the result of several factors. Tesla itself pointed to the Red Sea conflict, an arson attack at Gigafactory Berlin, and the ramp-up of the updated Model 3 as reasons for the decline.

In addition, it cited the intense competition from automakers that are pushing hybrids harder than ever. On top of that, it’s well worth noting that Chinese EVs are also placing plenty of pressure on Tesla.

Finally, Tesla highlighted how its investment in future products played a role in its reduced revenue during Q1. “While many are pulling back on their investments, we are investing in future growth – including our AI infrastructure, production capacity, our Supercharger and service networks, and new products infrastructure – with $2.8B of capital expenditures in Q1.”

More Affordable EVs

The comment about “new products infrastructure” is an important one because it gave Tesla fans—and apparently investors, as evidenced by the stock surge—reason to be excited, despite the negative financial news.

In its updated deck, the automaker specifically highlighted its progress on “new vehicles, including more affordable models.” Tesla stated that these vehicles would utilize elements from the next-gen platform as well as current platforms, and they would be manufactured on existing production lines.

While Elon Musk didn’t specify whether these affordable EVs would include a new car like the rumored Model 2 (given his dismissal of recent reports about Tesla canceling plans for it), or perhaps more basic versions of the current range, he did mention that we might see them in the second half of 2025.

“You know, I don’t want to blow your minds, but I’m often optimistic regarding time,” Musk said during the Q&A session. “But our current schedule indicates that we will start production toward the end of 2025, so sometime in the second half. That’s just what our current schedule indicates.”

The Tesla chief said the company would shed more light on the new range during its August 8th robotaxi event. News that the brand is still pursuing these models likely had a hand in the stock price rallying some 14 percent today in after-hours trading.

It’s also worth noting that additional revenue streams appear to be broadening for Tesla. During its earnings call, it also revealed that it’s in talks with one major automaker to license Full Self-Driving technology. In addition, it’ll make additional cash this year as it opens up the Supercharger network to more brands.

McLaren Dealers Get A Glimpse Of $2 Million Hypercar Coming In 2026

  • Code-named the P18, McLaren’s next hypercar is coming in the second half of 2026.
  • Although the P18 will have race-inspired aero elements, it won’t be ugly.
  • The P18 will be powered by a newly-developed V8 hybrid powertrain that will underpin other future models.

The demands of aesthetic design and aerodynamic efficiency aren’t always perfectly aligned, and you don’t need to look any further than the McLaren Senna for proof. While the hypercar proved shockingly effective on the track, its appearance was equally shocking to look at. However, the automaker has taken this lesson to heart, and its next hypercar is promised to be more visually appealing.

var adpushup = window.adpushup = window.adpushup || {que:[]};
adpushup.que.push(function() {
if (adpushup.config.platform !== “DESKTOP”){

}

} });

McLaren’s upcoming hypercar is code-named the P18, and it is set to land in the U.S. in the second half of 2026. When it arrives, it will feature F1-inspired technology, body work penned by McLaren’s new designer, Tobias Suhlmann, and it will ring in at around $2 million.

This and more information were revealed during a retailers’ meeting in Las Vegas on April 16, as reported by Autonews.

The P18 will feature state-of-the-art aerodynamic design, with its body honed in McLaren’s new wind tunnel. This will include floating fenders to enhance airflow around the car, an active splitter below the “eye-socket” headlights that can open and close to reduce drag, and a large air scoop above the C-pillar. This scoop serves to draw cooling wind into the engine compartment and allows the driver to hear the V8 engine that will power the car.

The hypercar will also get a big carbon fiber diffuser that spans the entire width of its rear end. The aero element will sit below dual titanium exhaust pipes, and a McLaren P1-style active rear wing whose mechanism has been described as “jewelry-like” by dealers who were shown renders of the P18 ahead of its debut.

 McLaren Dealers Get A Glimpse Of $2 Million Hypercar Coming In 2026

The McLaren Senna

Despite all of those impressive aerodynamic design elements, McLaren is working hard to ensure that the design remains cohesive. “The [P18] has a lot of technical aspects of the Senna, but it’s a hell of a lot prettier,” a dealer told the publication. The hypercar will also ditch the brand’s trademark butterfly doors for top-mounted gullwing doors.

Under the hood, power will come from a new hybrid powertrain. The V8 engine at its core has been designed from the ground up and is not related to the impressive V8 of the 750S or the wide-angle V6 of the Artura.

More: McLaren Teases New Design Language And Wraparound Cockpits

The engine will be connected to a hybrid system that’s 70 percent lighter than McLaren’s current kit, thanks to a high-density battery that was first designed for the automaker’s Formula One racecars. Unfortunately, a power figure has not yet been communicated, but the P18 is expected to make over 1,000 hp.

Although McLaren will produce just 400 examples of the hypercar, it will be an important model for the brand. The new V8 engine will power future models, and the P18’s design language will be applied to future vehicles, including the four-door model that the brand is considering.

Ford F-150 Lightning Crashes Into 7 Cars At Michigan Car Wash

  • A Ford Lightning driver lost control at a car wash and damaged seven vehicles in total.
  • Video of the incident appears to indicate that the driver simply hit the wrong pedal.
  • It’s unclear if the driver had a medical episode and if the authorities charged them with anything.

Oftentimes, the only result of going to the car wash is a little more pride in one’s vehicle and just a little less money in the bank. However, for seven different drivers at one such establishment in Michigan, the outcome was almost the exact opposite.

var adpushup = window.adpushup = window.adpushup || {que:[]};

A Ford truck driver lost control of her vehicle and ended up causing significant damage to six other vehicles.

Read: Semi Truck Rips Up Parked Tesla Cybertruck

The incident appears to have taken place at Diamond Carwash and Detail on Five Mile Rd, in Plymouth, Michigan. Security video from the building shows a line of cars waiting to enter the carwash and a blue Ford F-150 Lightning behind several of them. As the line moves forward slowly the truck picks up the pace.

It smashes into a sign and into the back of a Toyota Sienna almost simultaneously. It then barrels over a bit of landscaping and into a Honda Accord. It actually mounts the Honda to the point that the front passenger tire of the truck comes to rest on the rear corner of the car. The Accord was hit hard enough that it slid over and hit another vehicle next to it.

As for the Sienna, it was pushed forward so hard that it created a separate pile-up in the carwash line. A Ford Taurus, Dodge Charger, and Ford Explorer all ended up with significant damage as a result. Interestingly, the Charger was part of the Livonia Police Department so at least an office was available to render aid and work the scene immediately.

It’s unclear at this stage what caused the driver to lurch forward the way that they did. Electric vehicles are lauded for their typically excellent acceleration, but in cases of mistaken pedal engagement, things can go wrong fast.

That appears to be what happened here and potentially in other similar cases. We’ve reached out to Diamond Carwash, the Livonia PD, and the original posters on various social media platforms for more details. We’ll update this post as they become available.

2024 Toyota Tacoma Hybrid Priced From $47,795, Tops Out At $65,395

  • The hybrid Toyota Tacoma lineup starts with the TRD Pro i-Force Max, pricing for which opens at $47,795.
  • It is available on four other models, and adds $3,700 to the price of the vehicle, over the non-hybrid option.
  • The hybrid “i-Force Max” adds power (326 hp and 465 lb-ft torque) and some fuel economy improvements compared to the standard model.

For the first time ever, Toyota is offering a hybrid version of the Tacoma. This isn’t just a big deal for the Taco itself, but for the segment in general, as it’s the first mid-size hybrid truck in North America.

var adpushup = window.adpushup = window.adpushup || {que:[]};
adpushup.que.push(function() {
if (adpushup.config.platform !== “DESKTOP”){

Today, Toyota released the full pricing for the hybrid model as it begins to arrive in dealerships. The most affordable trim available with the i-Force Max hybrid powertrain is the TRD Pro, with an MSRP of $47,795 (all prices include a $1,495 destination charge).

As compared to the same Double Cab body style (and transmission), the i-Force Max adds $3,700 to the price of the model, though the internal combustion Tacoma TRD Pro double cab 4×4 can be had with a six-speed manual transmission. That lowers the vehicle’s price by $800, to $43,295, which is $4,500 less than the hybrid model.

Similarly, the standard Tacoma TRD Off-Road is available with both a six-speed manual and an eight-speed automatic transmission, meaning that it can be had for as little as $43,295, or $4,800 less than the hybrid model. However, with the same transmission, the i-Force Max powertrain adds just $3,700 to the price of the truck, and starts at $48,095.

The $3,700 price difference continues with the Limited trim. Prices for the ICE model start at $53,595, while the hybrid variant costs $57,295. Meanwhile, the Trailhunter and the TRD Pro models are only available with the i-Force Max powertrain, and prices start at $64,395 and $65,395, respectively.

2024 Toyota Tacoma Pricing, Hybrid vs Non-Hybrid
Grade Non-Hybrid i-Force Max Price Difference
TRD Sport Double Cab 4×4 $44,095 $47,795 $3,700.00
TRD Off-Road $44,395 $48,095 $3,700.00
Limited $53,595 $57,295 $3,700.00
Trailhunter N/A $64,395 N/A
TRD Pro N/A $65,395 N/A
Note, all prices include $1,495 destination charge.

SWIPE

The TRD Pro i-Force Max is the most expensive trim in the entire Tacoma lineup, and costs about twice as much as the entry level truck, the SR XtraCab 4×2, which opens pricing for the model at $32,995.

The reason for the price premium is that the non-hybrid engines make 228 hp (170 kW / 231 PS) or 278 hp (207 kW / 282 PS), while the i-Force Max powertrain provides drivers with 326 hp (243 kW / 330 PS) and 465 lb-ft (630 Nm) of torque.

Toyota also describes the hybrid package has being focused on performance, helping to generate short bursts of torque while the 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine’s turbos spool up. Improved fuel economy and better emissions performance are just bonuses. In the TRD Sport and Off-Road models, the i-Force Max powertrain delivers 22 MPG in the city, 24 MPG on the highway, and 23 MPG combined, while the non-hybrid powertrain returns 19 MPG city, 23 MPG highway, and 20 MPG combined.

GM Posts Strong First Quarter, Raises Full-Year Guidance

  • GM had a strong first quarter as year-over-year revenue rose by 8%.
  • The impressive start pushed GM to raise their full-year guidance.
  • While the company continues to ramp up electric vehicle production, they’re expecting a boost from new and updated ICE-powered vehicles such as the Equinox, Traverse, and Tahoe.

General Motors has released their first-quarter results and it’s good news for investors as the company reported revenues of $43 billion and $3 billion of net income attributable to stockholders. The automaker also reported EBIT-adjusted earnings of $3.9 billion.

On top of that, the automaker raised their full-year guidance. Net income attributable to stockholders is now expected to be between $10.1 and $11.5 billion, which is up from earlier estimates of between $9.8 and $11.2 billion. Expected EBIT-adjusted earnings are up by half a billion dollars, while diluted earnings per share are expected to be between $8.94 and $9.94, which is nearly 50 cents higher than previous estimates.

There’s good news on the EV side as Barra said the cost of battery cells has come down significantly as production has ramped up at Ultium Cells Ohio. She went on to note the added benefit of lower material costs and a faster ramp up at the Tennessee Ultium Cells plant.

Speaking of batteries, Barra said “battery module production has increased 300% over the last six months, quality is very good and it’s continuing to improve.” She added the company expects to double their current production capacity by the end of this summer.

UK Police Seized Nearly A Quarter Million Cars Last Year

  • Police across the United Kingdom seized a total of at least 214,051 vehicles in 2023.
  • The number one reason for confiscation was that a given vehicle was being driven without insurance, or by an unlicensed driver.
  • Dundee, Scotland, was the region of the country where the most vehicles were seized.

Having your car seized can lead to major headaches if you’re a driver, and by that logic, U.K. police caused a lot of cranial pain last year. Across the country, the constabulary seized a total of at least 214,051 vehicles in 2023, or a little more than 586 per day.

The reasons for the seizures varied widely, but the top cause was people driving without a license or insurance. Rates of uninsured or unlicensed driving were up in 2023 when police seized 56,707 vehicles for being caught without the right paperwork, as opposed to a year earlier when 44,290 drivers were nabbed.

Not all vehicle seizures were of undamaged vehicles, according to National Scrap Car, which received data from 26 out of the UK’s 45 police forces. Within those areas, police seized 49,278 vehicles last year because they had been involved in a traffic accident, up from 40,305 a year earlier. In most cases, these vehicles were either undrivable, or being kept as evidence.

The third most common reason police seized a vehicle was that it had been reported as part of a theft. In all, authorities recovered 28,448 vehicles under these circumstances, an increase of nearly 10,000 over a year earlier.

Police also seized a surprising number of abandoned vehicles last year, and it was the fourth-most common reason for confiscation. If you’re concerned about your car’s status, it can be helpful to move it, as police tend to look for vehicles that have been stationary a long time, have damage, and have no registered keeper.

By region, the people of Dundee, Scotland, were the most likely to have their vehicle seized. Police in the region confiscated an impressive 23,344 vehicles in 2023, but 83 percent were eventually returned to their owners. Unfortunately, around 17 percent of the region’s seized vehicles were later destroyed by the police or sold at auction.

The West Midlands was also a hotspot, and the constabulary seized 23,203 vehicles in the region last year. The good news for road users in the area is that the number of seizures was down from a year earlier, when 24,514 vehicles were seized.

Tesla Will Axe Almost 2,700 Jobs From Texas HQ

  • Tesla to lay off 2,688 from its Texas site.
  • Redundancies amount to a 12 percent cut in Tesla’s Austin workforce.
  • Move comes after Tesla announced a 10 percent reduction in staffing globally.

Tesla is cutting almost 2,700 employees from its Texas facility as part of a global drive to reduce its workforce and save money in the face of declining EV sales and slimmer profit margins.

A total of 2,688 jobs will go, which represents a 12 percent cut in the number of Tesla employees working in the greater Austin area, Reuters reports. The move is part of a wider program to reduce Tesla’s headcount globally by 10 percent. After a meteoric run of sales successes, Tesla is now having to deal with a slowdown in the EV market, while price cuts it instigated to drive sales have eaten into its margins.

The number of job losses in Austin was revealed when Tesla informed the state of Texas of its plans, complying with a labor law requiring companies with more than 99 employees to give 60 days notice of planned, large-scale layoffs. Around 22,800 people are employed by Tesla in the greater Austin area, but the canteen line is going to get much shorter from June 14 when the layoffs start.

Other U.S.-based Tesla employees are also due to be affected by the job cuts, including 285 workers at the automaker’s Buffalo, New York, facility where its autonomous driver assistance tech is developed.

Cybertruck and Model 3 are built in Texas Gigafactory

Breaking the news of the 10 percent global staffing reduction from its current level of over 140,000, CEO Elon Musk explained to employees via email that the layoffs are a strategic move aimed at “cost reductions and increasing productivity.” Musk went on to say that the job cuts were decided after a thorough review of the organization. “There is nothing I hate more, but it must be done,” he wrote.

Those left looking for new employment as a result of Tesla’s drive to cut costs are unlikely to be rooting for Musk in his current legal battle over his own pay package. A Delaware judge blocked his $55.8 billion renumeration, describing it as an “unfathomable sum” and asserting that it was improperly approved by the company’s board of directors.

Facelifted Cupra Formentor And Leon Will Pack New Tech And Updated Powertrains

  • Cupra will introduce the facelifted Formentor and Leon on April 29.
  • Both models will receive a Tavascan-inspired makeover that largely focuses on the front end.
  • Besides styling tweaks, we can expect improved technology and updated plug-in hybrid powertrains.

Cupra is gearing up to introduce the facelifted Formentor and Leon at a Design Obsession event on April 29. The company is keeping details under wraps, but said the models will embrace their new design language as well as “incorporate the latest eHybrid technology, greater digitalization and sustainability features.”

var adpushup = window.adpushup = window.adpushup || {que:[]};
adpushup.que.push(function() {

}
else{

} });

While that isn’t much to go on, the Formentor was previewed at an Unstoppable Impulse event in 2022 and has been spied numerous times since then. As a result, the design isn’t much of a surprise as the model will adopt a Tavascan-inspired front fascia which trades a traditional grille for a massive air intake.

The model will also be equipped with new headlights that feature triangular daytime running lights. Speaking of lights, the teaser image shows new taillights and an illuminated Cupra logo. We can also expect a lightly revised rear bumper.

Powertrain details remain elusive, but Cupra hinted at upgrades to the plug-in hybrid variant. It currently has a 1.4-liter TSI engine, a 12.8 kWh lithium-ion battery pack, and an electric motor. This setup gives the crossover a combined output of 201 hp (150 kW / 204 PS), which enables it to accelerate from 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) in 7.8 seconds and travel up to 36.7 miles (59 km) on electricity alone.

Besides the crossover, Cupra will introduce the facelifted Leon and Leon Sportstourer. The company said we can expect “significant enhancements to the design, driving dynamics and technology – transformative impulses that challenge the status quo.”

Marketing hyperbole aside, the model will feature a Tavascan-inspired front fascia with a mustache-like air intake. They’ll be joined by new lighting units that have triangular accents.

Like the Formentor, Cupra suggested the Leon plug-in hybrids will be getting an upgrade. They currently have outputs of 201 hp (150 kW / 204 PS) and 242 hp (180 kW / 245 PS).
